We are happy to welcome the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Médicales de Bukavu (ISTM-Bukavu), Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the NextGIS academic program.
Through this program, the institute receives access to NextGIS Web, our open-source Web GIS platform for publishing spatial data, creating interactive maps, managing users and permissions, organizing field data collection, and building collaborative QGIS-based workflows.
ISTM-Bukavu is a public higher-education institution that trains specialists in medical and paramedical sciences and conducts applied research addressing healthcare needs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its academic fields include community health, nutrition and dietetics, laboratory techniques, healthcare management, and environmental health and safety.
Public health education and research increasingly rely on geographic information. Spatial tools can support the mapping of healthcare services, community surveys, environmental and sanitary risks, field observations, and geographic patterns in health-related indicators. With NextGIS, students and researchers can organize spatial datasets, collect information in the field, collaborate through QGIS, and publish interactive maps for teaching, research, and community-oriented projects.
We hope NextGIS will support practical training, applied health research, field data collection, research visualization, and collaborative spatial data workflows at ISTM-Bukavu.
