How can a QGIS team share the photos, reports, and documents that belong to its map features?
On October 30, we joined QGIS Open Day with a talk titled “Beyond attributes: sharing photos and documents across QGIS teams.” The session explored how NextGIS Connect brings feature attachments into a shared desktop and web workflow.
GIS work often involves more than geometry and attribute tables. An inspection point may need photographs, a building record may include scanned plans, and a monitoring site may have supporting reports. Keeping these materials connected to the right features makes them easier for colleagues to find and use.
The talk focused on attachment management in NextGIS Connect 4, the plugin connecting QGIS to NextGIS Web. From QGIS, users can view a feature attachments, add new files, download them, and delete attachments when needed. Files added through QGIS remain associated with the same feature in NextGIS Web and are also available through the browser.
This supports team workflows: one colleague adds a photo to a shared feature, another reviews it in QGIS, and others access the related materials through the Web GIS. Spatial data and its supporting files stay together across desktop and web environments.
Thank you to the QGIS Open Day organizers and everyone who joined the session!
