Bug reports
NextGIS develops a variety of multifunctional software. The software is constantly evolving and, sadly, bugs inevitably occur. If you found an issue, we’ll be happy to fix it. Here are some recommendations on how to help us fix bugs faster.
What information to include
To start fixing an issue we need to reproduce it first. The faster we can reproduce it, the the sooner the bug will be added to the developer’s queue and fixed.
To reproduce the bug as quickly as possible what we need from you is a clear and unambiguous description of the issue.
Example
Here’s an example of a good bug report:
Failed to create layer from GeoJSON file. Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Sign in to my Web GIS https://mywebgis.nextgis.com/ under administrator.
2. Select Create resource > Vector layer.
3. In the vector layer tab select buildings.geojson to upload.
Expected result: a file is uploaded.
Observed result: Error message: Validation error GDAL library failed to open file.
Attached file: buildings.geojson
The main characteristic of a good bug report is that all the steps in the description can be easily reproduced without further questions.
Keep in mind
Be prepared to patiently answer additional questions and provide more information.
If you mention data in your bug report, attach the files to your message.
Where to send a report
The best way is to email us at support@nextgis.com. If you want to attract attention of other users and compare your experiences, you can post in our public group in Telegram.
When will my bug get fixed?
We cannot give you a date. But there are ways to make the process faster:
- Are you our client? Bug reports from our clients have priority in the queue.
- Is the issue critical? Serious issues get higher priority.
- Is the bug report exhaustive? A clear description allows to quickly reproduce, localize and fix the issue.
